The dark side of taking requests.
I did this design not too long ago by request by someone I know through my business partner. I wasn’t really a huge fan of the shirt. I guess I felt the humor behind it was off. But I honor my promise to design for people if they ask it of me. As long as there is no copyright laws or I find the subject matter too crude, I am all for doing custom designs for people. I also don’t charge anything extra for doing a design either. After all, I get a fresh idea out of it and a new product line. Seems like a great trade off to me.
But eventually you have to get through a design that you’re just not feeling. I felt that way with this one. And again, I think it’s because the humor feels off. It’s not a joke that I would of developed on my own.
Still, I endured and submitted this design. It was really intended to be a rough draft to bounce of the requester to get their feedback and to clarify their wants. It turned out they wanted this design so we threw it on some product templates and the requester made his purchase. It’s cool that he liked my design. I personally feel it’s not my best, but this was intended to be a rough draft; a launching pad. Instead it became the final design
Anyways, my business partner, wrote me today to tell me that the requester had brought the shirt into the office of his day job. Ethan, my business partner, told me that the shirt came out way better then what he thought it would and he had shared pretty much the same reluctance to the design as I did from the beginning.
I haven’t seen the final product, but I requested that Ethan gets some photographs going. I’ll post them when they come in.
Still this was kind of an odd design for me. I’m glad the product came out great and I’m glad the requester liked the design and the shirt. I guess I’m still up in the air about it. I’ll have to make an effort to meet up with the requester and see the final product for myself.
Until next time

Is it odd for me to be the first to comment on a post? Oh well. I’ll be odd. It just feels weird using the word requester as main description of someone. It’s like some kind of crazy office-type superhero.
